Summary
The original Sentinel Initiative was the brainchild of Alexinus Carpenter, the Chairman (and acting CEO during the bankruptcy) of Wright Tech, and was intended to serve a similar purpose to Long Corporation's PEARL program by sponsoring several Meta-Human heroes to act as a legally sanctioned team for handling scenarios that could not be handled by regular law enforcement efforts without having to resort to martial law. This original initiative never saw the light of day, however, due to Wright Tech's bankruptcy and dissolution, with the rights and equipment intended for the initiative entering the private property of Alex during the selling off of Wright Tech's assets to interest buyers.
The original Sentinel Initiative would see a spiritual successor in Long Corporation's PEARL Program, but Alexinus did not give up on potentially reviving the actual Sentinel Initiative.
The opportunity to revive the initiative came when Kei Yuuki broke into Alex's home, during which she manged to activate and control the long-dormant S.E.A.R.C.H. without any instruction. Taking this opportunity, Alex recruited Kei to lead the initiative[1], who in turn recruited Faraday, Moon, Star, and Kuiper.[2]

Notes
- The Sentinels are functionally similar to the Avengers and Young Avengers, being a superhero team primarily funded by a rich sponsor to provide a mechanism for handling situations that individual members cannot handle, with the members primarily being younger than the average hero.
