Kenneth "Ken" Thompson, (born March 2nd, 1965) is a scientist, and both the co-founder and co-leader of The Collective.
Summary
Ken grew up as a Meta-Human in Waco, Texas. Born into a small working class family, Ken was initially set up to follow in his parents' footsteps. However his exceptional intelligence allowed him to coast through school easily. The older he got, the more fascinated Ken became in both the sciences, as well as his own psychic abilities. He begun to devote himself to learning more about psionics, and the fabled Astral Plane, determined to find out whether it was real, or just "religious nonsense" as he would put it.
Eventually Ken would meet Karl Fischer, with the pair eventually establishing The Collective together. With their knowledge and resources put together, the pair got to work in order to further their goals. This led to the eventual creation of Ken's "children", Orion and Stephanie. However, his approach to "parenting" wasn't appreciated by the children, nor their "mother", resulting in her taking the children and fleeing from Ken. Ultimately, Ken located her and the children in Sanctuary City, and took her life in order to prevent a similar incident from occurring again[1]. In secret, Ken developed a third child in order to act as a fail safe in the event that the children try to escape again[2]. To his dismay they would eventually break free again, sending him in a rage as he began to try and recover them[1].
Powers & Abilities
- Intelligence: Ken is incredibly book smart, and is accomplished in several fields of science. However his primary expertise is that of Psionics, where he is considered one of the world's leading experts.
- Psionics: As a Meta-Human, Ken possesses his own psychic abilities. Although he's not particularly powerful, Ken makes up for it with a wide arsenal of abilities. Some of which include:
- Psychokinesis: With his mind alone Ken can manipulate objects or impart forces upon the world.
- Telepathy: Ken is able to read the minds of others, as well as communicate with them. Although not capable of outright mind control, Ken is able to influence the behavior of others more easily than a normal human.
- Psychic Energy Manipulation: Ken is able to perform rudimentary control over raw psychic energy, allowing him to form simple objects such as barriers, or create simple projectiles.
Notes
- Ken is Texan because Revo thought it would be really funny.
- Revo also thinks it would be really funny if his parents are really nice people, this is not yet canon.
- Originally, Ken was the sole parent/genetic donor of the Thompson kids. This was later changed for various reasons.
- Ken is a known sexist, although he treats other men with almost as much disdain as he does women due to his narcissistic tendencies.
- Ken is an Atheist, and finds religion "pathetic".
- Despite the overwhelming evidence Karl presents, Ken doesn't believe in Magic. Rather he just sees it as another form of science that he has no current interest in.
