Nous, or Vοῦς, is an Elf Magician from Earth-59's previous kalpa who managed to survive the end of the previous Earth-59 through unknown means along with Arete, their older sister.

Personality

A timid and easily scared individual despite the great power they possess, Nous can be best described as a "shut-in", much preferring isolation to social interaction. Despite this, however, Nous possesses a great amount of curiosity, and has excellent recall abilities, two facts that greatly help her scholarly abilities. In particular, Nous has a penchant for the inner workings of the cosmos, and possesses an understanding of how to manipulate reality that is far greater than most beings within the multiverse - although this fact would be difficult to ascertain from her lack of confidence.

Summary

Born at some unknown point before the end of the previous Earth-59, Nous is the younger sibling of Arete. Thanks to her species, Nous lived an unaging existence from their birth to the end of her home universe. When the inevitable end of their universe came, Nous somehow used her knowledge of the inner workings of reality to transcend beyond Earth-59, taking Arete as well in the process. Why Nous did not take other members of her species, or even other members of their family, is unknown. But whatever reason was, this decision left Arete and Nous both the last survivors of their universe and the last members of their species.

Some time after the end of their universe, Nous and Arete parted ways, with Arete joining Aletheia. Nous, meanwhile, began a search of their own. Having always been a timid individual, and lacking confidence in their own combat ability, Nous endeavoured to find a reality where Magic would only work for them, having previously becoming aware of magic acting differently in different realities. In their search, Nous mapped out much of the newly formed universes of the current Kalpa, until she eventually came up a universe that she could shape in her own image, using it to create a sanctuary of her own that she could observe the movements of the multiverse from.

At some point after creating their domain, Nous reconnected with Arete, and came to an arrangement that she would not require much in the way of observation from Aletheia on the condition that she remained in her new home and did not attempt to teach her knowledge to any others.

Much later, Nous somehow came into contact with Earth-0, managing to gain an apprentice in the form of Cassandra Sybillus. Taking the young mage under their wing, Nous taught them much of their knowledge of reading the fate of beings based on their cosmological coordinates, granting her a book with much of their knowledge, as well as instructions on how to reach their domain through the use of magic. This contact, however, eventually drew the attention of the local Sorcerer Supremes, who then travelled to her domain while she was entertaining Arete. This event led to Arete discovering their breach of the agreement with Aletheia, as well as the existence of magicians on Earth-0. Once Arete left to report these facts to her superiors, Nous decided to temporarily isolate their domain from the greater multiverse, removing Stephanie and Isaac from the domain in the process.

Alone once again, Nous decided to ponder what the universes within the next Kalpa would be like.

Powers & Abilities

• Magic:
  • Nous is an incredibly old and experienced magician, and as such is knowledgeable in many forms of magic, in particular, Nous has their own unique form of magic, referred to as Spatial Magic.
  • Unique to Nous, Spatial Magic is magic that attempts to manipulate reality through understanding of its rules, making the user capable of an impressive array of feats, including:
    • Universal Manipulation: Nous is capable of manipulating a universe at the fundamental level of its existence through study of the current rules of the universe, and can use this to change the nature of a universe to suit her needs.
    • Precognition: By reading the unique cosmological signature of a being, object, or even universe, Nous is capable of performing predictions of the future that are accurate enough to set them as Fate.
• Elf Physiology: Like, Arete, Nous is one of the last two survivors of the Elves of the previous Earth-59, and possesses the physiology of one, this grants her certain advantages over the average human, including:
  • Immortality: Nous is functionally immortal, having lived for at least trillions of years already (although this does not grant her immunity from other forms of death).
  • Enhanced Condition: Compared to a human, Nous is much faster, stronger, durable, and possesses much swifter reflexes.

Notes

• Due to a combination of their age, magical ability, and knowledge of the cosmos, Nous registers as an Outsider on a cosmic scale.
• As someone who was born at a period not near the end of their universe's kalpa, and having survive beyond the end of it, Nous's age places them as being unfathomably old by human standards, easily falling within trillions of years (although it is likely far higher).
• Nous is a concept from classical philosophy that relates to intellect, in particular understand of what is true or real.
