Description

Psionics are a seemingly supernatural force and concept, created and governed by the Sentience IsoMatrix. As one of the fundamental forces of existence, psionic power assists in stabilizing it.

Seen by some as a more "scientific" or "realistic" alternative to Magic, or just as blatantly illogical and supernatural to others, in truth Psionics are somewhere in the middle. While psionic abilities and their affects on the brain are easier to objectively measure, there is still a great degree of mystery behind how they truly function.

In spite of all this, Psionics abilities are tremendously powerful, seeming indistinguishable from Magic at times. While weak Psychics aren't good for much more than a party trick, high level users can be compared to gods, able to alter reality itself with just a thought.

Psychic Energy

Psychic Energy is the source that fuels all psionic abilities. It is both generated by the Astral Plane as well as individuals themselves. Any being living or dead, so long as it has a mind to speak of generates even the smallest amount of psychic energy, which can then be used by the appropriate entity for their self.

Typically, Psychic Energy is used as a fuel for Psychic powers, similarly to how a person needs food or a car needs gasoline, a psychic needs the appropriate amounts of energy to fuel their powers. Most psychics can both passively and actively absorb and generate these energies, however the limit to what they can handle safely is dependent on the individual. When a psychic runs low on energy and tries to continue the use of their powers, they may begin to experience physical and mental pains in the form of headaches, nausea, hallucinations or even something that can only be described as a "mental attack".

Despite it's use as a fuel, Psychic Energy can also be used in it's raw form as a tool. Whether used this way out of preference or necessity, it's still quite useful as the user can mold and shape the energy into nearly any use or form they can imagine. Some examples of this include:

  • Enveloping something with energy in order to move it from a distance
  • Molding energy into the shape of a blade
  • Throwing or firing energy as a projectile
  • Using energy as a shield
  • Synching energies together to read a mind
Shiny psychic energy. But why is it purple?

Applications

Some typical psychic abilities include:

And more.

Levels

Similar to Magic, Psychics can theoretically be organized into differing levels of power/skill.

  • Low Level
    • The Psychic in question is considered very weak, and perhaps not very skilled. Psychics of this level tend to be capable of only very basic feats, such as being capable of remotely moving items that weigh a few kilograms, or occasionally hearing the thought of someone very close by.
  • Mid Level
    • Psychics of this level are the kind you might typically see in things such as films and video games. They showcase obvious Psychic abilities, being able to move fairly large objects with their minds alone, or hold complete telepathic conversations with others.
  • High Level
    • Psychics of this level are rare, showcasing abilities that may begin to make them appear almost like a demi-god. These individuals are capable of feats such as enhancing their body's speed to rival those of a rocket, or control the minds of an entire continent's worth of people.
  • Extreme Level
    • The rarest category of Psychic. Entities of this level truly blur the lines between what is real and what isn't, as they are typically capable of manipulating reality itself with a thought alone. Those of this level who are more specialized and incapable of a broad range of abilities tend to be masters of their particular power, enabling them to perform truly incredible feats, such as reading the minds of all beings in a universe at once, or perhaps even more. While a psychic of this caliber can theoretically come from anywhere, the majority tend to be beings intrinsically tied to the Astral Plane, or highly powerful Magicians that have used Magic as a proxy for psychic power.

Limitations

  • The vast majority of individuals rely on Psychic Energy to fuel their powers, with only a rare few entities being capable of performing without.
  • Some individuals might only be capable of particular abilities, such as only possessing telepathy and nothing else.
  • If an individual doesn't have some form of "off switch" for their abilities, they must be constantly on guard in order to prevent any accidents from happening.
  • Overuse tends to cause physical and mental pain.
  • Fights between Psychics can often come down to simply a battle of wills. Meaning whoever has the lesser willpower loses.

  • Omni had a mild headache when writing this page. Really makes you think.
