Karl Fischer (DoB unknown), is a magician, and co-leader and co-founder of The Collective.

Summary

Born in Rothenburg, Karl originates from a family of mages that date back to the 16th century. Starting out as a family of peasants and poor tradesmen, by the time Karl was born the Fischer family was wealthy monetarily, and magically.

Karl grew up steeped in magic, and was taught from a young age. Over the years he showed great competence, becoming valuable to his family as both a relative and an asset. At some point, all other living members of the Fischer family perished except for Karl himself. Officially, the given reason is natural causes. Unofficially, those who believe overwise cannot get an answer out of Karl himself.

At some point Karl met Ken Thompson, and the pair eventually struck a deal to found The Collective. Karl manages everything magic related, and Ken manages everything else. Showing an interest in Ken's experiments to create his own children, Karl suggested the hiring of Monica Beaufort for the project. Knowing her family was originally well regarded in the magical community, Karl thought the resulting children could gain access to old Beaufort family secrets, and perhaps even make competent mages for him to control.

Unfortunately for him, the children did not do any of this. While Orion showed high potential, Stephanie proved to be overwhelming, causing him to abandon his initial plans. Years later when the twins were young adults he had regained his confidence, but failed to stop their escape. Afterwards he returned to his studies.

At a later point, Karl was seen at the Conclave, advocating for the broader magical community to take after the Thaumians. To his surprise, Stephanie made an appearance. He tried to hide that this bothered him.

Powers & Abilities

• Magic: Karl is a respected mage. Although he's not the most powerful or skilled, he's still considered successful. As expected he's capable of various magical feats such as curses, enchantment, control of the elements, and more.

Notes

• Originally, Karl was meant to be one of two other people joining Ken as the leaders of The Collective. This was changed to only be Karl for the sake of simplicity for the writer.
• Karl holds a vendetta against Stephanie for humiliating him in their fight despite her never knowingly performing magic at that point.
