The Multiverse is the current iteration and collection of all realities.
History
The Multiverse is the most recent and current iteration of the setting. It was predated by at least four other versions of itself, and has existed for googols of years.
As a joint creation of the IsoMatrices the Multiverse contains everything that is, and everything that isn't. Without them, it would cease to exist.
Structure
The Multiverse is an infinitely large structure composed of various dimensions, realms, universes and realities. It is made up primarily of layers, with each layer acting as a metaphysical or spatial level of existence.
Each layer varies in size, and can be composed of either infinite or finite space. Within each layer exists any number of dimensions, universes, pocket universes and realms. Some of these worlds exist independently of one another, while others are tethered to each other, connecting them either via travel or through more metaphysical means. Each reality itself can have a finite or infinite number of dimensions or layers. Though difficult, travel between portions of an individual universe, or neighboring realities is possible. Travel into higher or lower levels of the multiverse is also a possibility, but is massively more difficult, especially if attempting to travel "upward".
Often times, entities from higher levels of reality are able to interact with those from lower levels. Directly or indirectly, how it occurs is situational. However, entities from higher levels of reality tend to be "superior". While not always the case, they are often able to affect levels of reality lower to their own almost as if they were fiction themselves. This allows them almost unparalleled reality manipulation, with even the most powerful beings native to that level being essentially helpless.
Travel to higher levels of reality is often the most difficult, and success doesn't necessarily mean newfound domination over the previous layer. Each level, much like each individual universe holds it's own rules and natural laws. As always, context matters.
Not everything within The Multiverse participates in the layered structure. Some places are accessible from nearly anywhere, acting almost independently, but still a part of the whole. Oftentimes these are the most abstract and incomprehensible to the human mind, tending to exist as more fundamental portions of The Multiverse.
Kalpas
A kalpa is a cycle of rebirth and death that many realities within The Multiverse experience. Often times an individual reality will have a finite lifespan, and will eventually reach it's end. Whether it be from heat death, a big rip, or something else, the universe will die and typically be reborn anew. This cycle does not occur to every reality in the Multiverse, however many do experience it. Most notably the various universes containing an Earth.
It is important to note that this is a natural process separate from the all encompassing incidents that created the previous iterations of The Multiverse, although this can occur on a Multiversal scale too.
Notes
- The level of reality Earth and it's neighbors inhabit is either at, or just above the "base" level of the Multiverse.
- Omni likes describing The Multiverse like an apartment complex where each floor is a level of the multiverse, each apartment is a universe, and each room within is a layer or sub dimension of that universe. Travel between apartments on the same floor is universal travel. If you leave the complex you leave The Multiverse.
