Marc Faber
Marc Elijah Faber is a Meta-Human scientist working for the New Science Initiative in Sanctuary City. He is the head of the research initiative's Baryonic Particle Program. He is also the Meta-Human vigilante known as Nucleon.
Synopsis
Marc Faber is the lead physicist on the New Science Initiative's Baryonic Particle Program. As a world class physicist and mathematician, Marc currently oversees the project - even after the accident which nearly cost him his life. Dedicated to the pursuit of scientific progress, Marc has obsessed over the potential for harnessing subatomic particles and quantum effects - in an effort to introduce new methods of energy production and climate alteration on large scales.
Marc's desire to improve the world is rooted in his own personal issues he faced in the past. From an early age, Marc's father was neglectful - rarely showing him attention or care. His father, Mathias, was a construction worker in what would eventually become Sanctuary City. Spending nearly a decade working on the project in the 90s, Mathias was rarely ever home to care for Marc - leaving only his mother and extended family to raise him. As his mother was a stay at home caretaker, the family wasn't able to provide much for Marc in the way of toys or gifts as he was growing up. Instead, Marc would take objects in the backyard and piece them together, attempting to create his own toys, and learning to foster a sense of curiosity over concepts such as composition and structure.
Eventually, Marc got a part time job as a lab assistant when he was in high school - overseeing the creation of a small particle detection system, as part of a grant funded initiative. Marc performed so well in the position, that he was given a part-time job after graduating high school, assisting the laboratory. Angry at his son's unwillingness to continue in his footsteps as a construction worker, Mathias eventually attempted to let out his frustrations on Marc - causing Marc's powers to manifest in a fit of anger. Marc's powers manifested in that moment, the generation of high intensity flames and radiation. Nearly killing his father in that moment, Marc panicked and ran away from home - not looking back to see his father's condition, and only hearing his screams of anger and pain.
Marc would later leave for college at Sanctuary City University later that year, on a scholarship for his outstanding academic performance in mathematics and physics. Eventually, he graduated and began his accelerated PhD program. After finishing by age 21, Marc eventually began working for a private company called DataDrive - an analytical and research company based in Sanctuary City.
Eventually, he transferred to the New Science Initiative to further his research. Marc was convinced that the added funding with the public research initiative would increase his chances of developing breakthroughs.
During this time, Marc would start a romantic relationship with his fellow scientist - Lily Williams.
Later when the "Turf Wars" conflict began, a group of Meta-Humans attempted to take over the New Science Initiative facility.[1] While stalling for time in an attempt to save his research - Marc later threw himself and his work out of the control room; doing so in an attempt to save the knowledge in his head from extraction.[1] As he fell into the reactor with the Quantum Field Generator device - he was then turned into a conduit of Quantum Field energies.[1] Becoming Nucleon, he later defeated the Meta-Humans and forced their retreat from the facility.[1] Afterwards, Marc flew away from the scene himself - determined to learn more about his new powers and abilities.[1]
Powers & Abilities
Energy & Matter Manipulation
Marc has the ability to control both energy and matter to varying degrees - depending on his level of concentration.
He has an innate sense of the "structure" of any matter in his vicinity. He can also sense how much energy any object "contains" to a somewhat accurate degree.
While this ability is useful, it pales in comparison to the abilities gained after his laboratory accident involving the particle accelerator.
Quantum Field Conduit
After the particle accelerator accident with the Quantum Field Generator, Marc became a Conduit of the "Quantum Force" - an extra-dimensional probability space of quantum structures and events.
The Quantum Force contains virtually limitless reserves of energy as an entirely separate dimension - filled with probability spaces and quantum uncertainties.
By tapping into these energies, Marc can transform his body - turning himself into Nucleon - a Quantum Field being.

Fusion
Marc can also temporarily fuse himself with other beings while in his Conduit state.
These fusions involve converting the target into Quantum Field Energy that can resonate with Nucleon's own structure - leading to a more powerful fused being.
While in a fused state, the newly created being has access to all of the skills and abilities contained by both Nucleon and the other being.
Temporary "Echoes" of the other being's powers and abilities remain in the Quantum Force - disappearing after a few days.
Forms
Unstable Form
Nucleon's initial form - created moments after the particle acceleration accident. This form is unaccustomed to the energies provided by the Quantum Force. As such, Nucleon cannot make full use of his abilities.
His appearance is more energetic - with energy constructs as arms and legs, demonstrating his lack of experience properly utilizing energy and matter manipulation at that level.
Stable Form
Weeks after gaining his abilities - Nucleon has gained a more firm grasp on his abilities as a Conduit of the Quantum Force. His abilities are greatly magnified and more effective in nature.
His appearance is more solidified with actual arms and legs in addition to his costume; showcasing a greater degree of skill and control of his powers.
Notes
- Marc is the first character to tap into the Quantum Force - an aspect of the Structure IsoMatrix and its control over fundamental forces and energies in the multiverse.
- Marc is noted to be very absent minded outside of research work - being more focused on the pursuit of science than anything else.
- Even his partner, Lily, teases him for this - regularly.
- Marc doesn't keep in contact with his family outside of his mother. He naturally has a very strained relationship with his father given the circumstances.
- Marc has considered reaching out to the MRD for assistance with his new condition - though he's concerned about being turned into a potential weapon for the organization as well.
- Marc's favorite food is pasta with marinara sauce specifically.
- Marc hopes to one day become an accomplished physicist with countless academic papers.
- Marc believes that education is critical to personal development and growth as a person.
