Derek Hampton (born August 12, 1992) is a Meta-Human man living in Sanctuary City.
Summary
Living in Sanctuary City since he was a toddler, Derek is the only child in a small family. His parents Joe and Mary own a small corner store . His parents are devout Baptists and tried to raise him as one as well.
To their disappointment, Derek is rather indifferent about religion, and held no real interest in attending church. Moreover, Derek has expressed no interest in taking over the family business, preferring to strike out on his own. Specifically, he wishes to be a member of the Meta-Human Response Division. Derek did eventually join the MRD's academy, but experienced some difficulties with some of the more academic aspects of the job. Feeling dejected, Derek voluntarily dropped out. Rather than returning to his parents' business, Derek chose to instead find his own job elsewhere. Currently he is working as a clerk at the Meta-Gas & Convenience gas station.
Powers & Abilities
- Absorbing Replication: By making physical contact with an object, Derek can absorb it. Doing so doesn't merely copy it's properties, but pulls it into his body. Once absorbed, Derek can take on the properties of the material or simply keep it stored in his body. How much of the material he can replicate depends on the mass of what he absorbed. Objects with greater mass than his own body allow him to grow his own size, or to shape into various structures across his body. The greater the mass the longer it takes for him to absorb. This also applies to energy.
- Once absorbed, Derek can expel a material whenever he wants. Strangely, anything he expels shows no signs of having entering his body, nor of time passing. It is exactly the same as it was upon absorption.
- Theoretically, Derek can absorb living things to gain their attributes. Derek has never attempted this.

Notes
- Derek was created in order to try and fill out some more of the (at the time) much thinner roster of major characters.
- Derek has a fear of ghosts.
- Originally, Derek's fear of ghosts was much more important with him being tied to a mysterious being known as "The Wraith". This was dropped in favor of focusing more on his interest in joining the MRD.
- Honestly I just made up the name of his parents on the spot when writing this article.
