They probably don't look like this, but Revo thought this picture looked pretty cool, and they're the one who wrote this page, so. . .

Souls are the product of the Soul IsoMatrix, one of the governing forces of the Multiverse, and one of the immutable cores of all living beings.

Also Called

  • Spirit
  • Essence
  • Aura
  • Quintessence

Description

The Soul the immaterial, spiritual essence of a living being, anchoring parts of who they are. This means that the Soul of a being can contain elements of their identity, personality (although this is typically more reserved for their Mind and Emotions), and core memories. The Soul of a being is immortal and indestructible, being capable of surviving well beyond the death of their physical body. This does not mean that a Soul cannot be broken apart, however, simply that it is impossible to destroy a Soul completely (excluding special exceptions).

Souls follow the same general rules no matter the universe or being, making them a lot less mutable than other fundamental forces, meaning that it is easier to understand them on a general level. Despite this, however, every being's Soul is unique, meaning that each Soul has its own idiosyncrasies that express themselves in different ways, with these being shaped by the being's life, origins, and circumstances.

As well as being indestructable, Souls cannot be created (with one exception), meaning that there is technically a limited amount of Souls within the multiverse, although the possibility of the multiverse running out of Souls is incredibly low.

Soul Energy/Anima

Anima is the essence that Souls are made up of, the product of all a Soul has come from throughout its existence, and is also the expression of the energy of a Soul.

Generally, all Souls enter reality from the Spirit Realm with the same amount of anima, although this can vary in certain cases, and upon death, any excess anima is drained off from the Soul, being fed into the Spirit Realm to power the great cycle of death and rebirth that it facilitates. Anima can also be drained from a Soul by an outside force by the same principle, with some creatures surviving almost entirely from anima alone.

Anima is an incredibly versatile energy, and is capable of fuelling various different abilities, such as:

  • Healing and Regeneration
  • Virtual Immortality

Applications

The potential uses of the Soul, and in particular, the Anima of a Soul, are wide and varied, but some of them are listed below:

Death and Reincarnation

When an individual dies, their Soul is typically sent on to the Spirit Realm, at which point it is either kept within an Afterlife within the realm, or is sent to be reincarnated.

Reincarnation

If a Soul is selected from Reincarnation, it is stripped of any excess anima, and of any core memories that have not been deeply engraved onto it. Once this process has been completed, the Soul is returned to reality, where it will occupy another living being as if it were a different Soul, although some idiosyncrasies may remain.

It is theoretically possible for an individual to recall memories from their past life, but due to the process through which the Soul is prepared for reincarnation, these memories are highly unlikely to be complete, with only particularly strong memories being fully able to survive the process.

Afterlives

Main article: Spirit Realm

Souls that are not returned to reality to be reincarnated are sent on to the Spirit Realm permanently, being settled within a suitable afterlife. Within these afterlives, the person can be described as being "born again", as the afterlife will provide a recreation of an idealised life depending on a combination of their beliefs and personality. Once a Soul is sent to an afterlife, it is incredibly difficult for it to return to reality.

Limitations

  • All Souls are bound to the Soul IsoMatrix. No Soul, no matter how powerful, may supercede it, nor can any amount of Anima override this.
  • The usefulness of an individual's Soul is tied to their own understanding of themselves, if a person is unable to understand their Soul, it simply acts as an anchor for them.

Notes

  • Revo stole this page formatting from the Magic page, which in turn stole the formatting from the Superpower Wiki.
