Description

Magic is a supernatural force and concept, created and governed by the Magic IsoMatrix. As one of the fundamental forces of the Multiverse, Magic assists in the collective stabilization of existence, making it capable of distorting and manipulating it to various degrees. However, because of it's unique attributes, Magic is also capable of outright ignoring the rules of reality in favor of it's own, bound only to the limitations imposed upon it by the IsoMatrices themselves.

The exact rules and capabilities of Magic vary from location to location, dependent upon the thoughts and beliefs of both individuals and groups, with the group consensus tending to outweigh that of individuals. Because of this, Magic has no universal set of rules, making it's use almost endlessly varied. This often results in confusion when practitioners from wildly different sects interact with each other. However, most forms of Magic tend to function at least relatively similarly within their own reality, with radical differences mainly appearing when crossing into other worlds.

Unique to most, but not all realities containing an Earth are the Sanctums. Most notably among them, The Axiom. The Sanctums are separate realities anchored to that of it's own "Earth", serving as both a nexus of it's Magic, as well as a protective container for it's Crystal. Each Sanctum serves as a home and base to that reality's Sorcerer Supreme. As protector of the Sanctum's Crystal, the Sorcerer Supreme is privy to the ultimate truth of Magic: that Magic fundamentally behaves based on the thoughts and beliefs of those using it. By utilizing this knowledge and believing in it wholeheartedly, the Sorcerer Supreme is not just the most powerful magician in their home reality, but one of the most powerful in all existence. If there are any other powers or truths to attain from Magic, only those on this level may know how. As comparing such beings to each other is seemingly impossible from the perspective of an ordinary Human.

Magical Energies

Magic Particles

While not all expressions of Magic involve utilizing energy, it's still a relatively common phenomena. Generally, these types of Magic involve specific energies produced by the Magic IsoMatrix itself, such as Mana. However, this is not always the case, as not only can other Magic specific energies be used in it's place, but at times so can other forms of energy entirely unrelated to Magic. The use and effectiveness of these energies as always depend on the Magic itself, but in general it seems like Magic specific energies are thought to work best. Some examples of energy use include:

  • Using Mana to fuel a projectile based spell.
  • Absorbing electricity to reinvigorate magical reserves.
  • Using kinetic energy to create an object from seemingly nothing.
  • Directly using magical energy as a blunt force in an attack.

Although magical energies are affected much the same as Magic itself, they remain constant in the fact that they do exist in one form or another. Whether this means they can be objectively measured or not depends on the local consensus.

Applications

Although the use of Magic differs from place to place, some examples of potential uses include:

Offensive Magic

Defensive Magic

Miscellaneous Abilities

Levels

Although there is no universal classification system for Magic ability, it can hypothetically be broken down as:

  • Novice
    • The practitioner is a beginner in the use of Magic. They may have little to no experience, and have limited understanding of their craft.
  • Intermediate
    • The practitioner has some experience in the use of Magic. They likely are capable of performing numerous forms of Magic, as well as specializing in certain forms.
  • Advanced
    • The practitioner has a lot of experience with Magic. They are likely capable of performing feats of magic that are considered complex, as well as being knowledgeable about the inner workings of their craft.
    • Practitioners of this level typically are capable of being a competent teacher of their craft.
  • Expert
    • Often considered masters of their field, these Magic practitioners are highly experienced. Practitioners of this caliber are likely known as complete masters of one, or several forms of Magic. They may be capable of feats seen as highly complex, or even nigh-impossible to the typical practitioner.
    • These Magicians are often highly regarded as talented teachers, and may serve highly sought after roles in more magic inclined societies.
  • Godly
    • Practitioners of this level are often likened to gods, having an almost unfathomable level of skill and experience. Magicians of this level are the best of the best, having the skill and power to make even the most highly regarded masters of Magic look like nothing more than a child in comparison.
    • Typically Magicians of this level tend to be supernatural entities such as the Gods of Humanity. However, this isn't to say a mortal can't attain this skill level. It's simply a more rare occurrence.
  • Supreme
    • Practitioners of this level are the rarest of all, appearing virtually omnipotent to even the most experienced and powerful of magicians. Practitioners of this tier are virtually unrivaled, capable of feats that seemingly defy all logic. Even some Magical Entities may struggle to comprehend their sheer abilities.
    • Magicians of this caliber tend to be entities that are intrinsically tied to the forces of Magic, or some form of foreign entity from a place seen as different from the "usual" spaces of the Multiverse. A mortal attaining this level while extremely unlikely, is possible.

Keep in mind that these examples are not universal, and different groups or even individuals may have their own ways of classifying magical power and skill.

Limitations

  • All Magic is subservient to the Magic IsoMatrix. No form of Magic, no matter how powerful may supersede it.
  • Many Magical Energies, notably Mana tend to be volatile in the presence of Speedforce energies. Making them unstable and presenting a danger to both Magician and Speedster.
  • The specific rules and limitations for a form of Magic depend on the consensus of that reality, as well as the individuals within.

Note

  • Omni stole this page formatting from the Superpower Wiki
  • Some characters, such as Magister, have the quirk of referring to powerful forms of Magic as "High Order Magic". This is simply to denote the Magic in question is extremely powerful and requires great skill to use.

Known Kinds of Magic

  • Thaumaturgy
    • A form of Magic developed and used by the Thaumians. Thaumaturgy, or Thaumaturgic Magic utilizes a combination of Mana and harvested souls under the control of willpower to achieve "limitless" Magic.
