The name or term "Aiden Grayson" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Aiden Grayson (disambiguation).
"Don't worry. I'm not asking you to trust me, but I do want to help you out. Where that goes from there, is up to you."
The Current Thaumaturgy Armor

Aiden Ethan Grayson is a Meta-Human | Para-Human hybrid, and a Magician - currently living in Sanctuary City. He is the CEO of Archeon Incorporated and the son of its founder, Silas Grayson. His vigilante identity is known as Mosaic, (formerly Gradient), and is known as one of the more famous vigilantes in the city.

Summary

Early Life

Born in New York City, Aiden is the son of Dr. Silas Grayson - a researcher and entrepreneur, and the founder of Archeon Incorporated - one of the largest technology corporations on the planet. Originally believed to have experienced a normal birth, Aiden is in fact a genetically engineered human. Created as the result of research taken from his grandfather - Dr. Amadeus Grayson.

Created by his father Silas in the mid 90s, alongside his triplet siblings - Phoebe and Jonah; Aiden lived a relatively normal life, experiencing an upbringing common amongst wealthy families. He had a good relationship with his triplet siblings, as well as his older siblings - Kira and Jason (who were naturally born by comparison).

Aiden was forced to move to the West Coast with his family after an attack in NYC by Providence, the Meta-Human radical, and his organization. He would then spend the next decade of his life improving his own skills and knowledge base - before pursuing a degree in medicine.

Young Adult Life

The Original Nanite Suit [Destroyed]

Due to his "unique" level of intelligence, Aiden was entered into an accelerated program, allowing him to attend medical school in his teens. With additional support from his wealthy father's connections - he managed to graduate from an esteemed medical school in his early 20s; however he still has not completed residency.

Instead, Aiden was later handpicked by his father Silas to succeed him as the CEO of Archeon Incorporated - a move that surprised the board of directors, given Aiden's age and lack of business experience. Nonetheless, with his perceptive and analytical mind, Aiden quickly learned the fundamentals of management and business, allowing him to become an effective leader at one of the largest corporations on the Earth. Aiden would also move to Sanctuary City in order to properly assume his duties as Archeon's new CEO as well.

Mosaic

Soon after he moved to Sanctuary City, Aiden began seeing reports of kidnappings involving Meta-Humans, usually from destitute backgrounds. In addition, reports of crime from Meta-Human groups like the Brigadiers began to gradually rise in frequency. Eventually, the active crime rate of Sanctuary City's superpowered groups became large enough to begin jeopardizing the safety of Archeon's employees, as well as regular civilians. This was in conjunction with the reported increases in kidnappings that were also reported on.

Deciding to make a difference in his own, "unconventional" way, Aiden began formulating a plan. After taking the time to more thoroughly excavate the subterranean caverns underneath the Archeon Complex, which were privately constructed by his father - Aiden then began considering his options. Years earlier, a meteorite pod had crash landed into an open site nearby Aiden's family home on the West Coast; a pod that would later be catalogued as one of four mysterious pods. These technological pods held inside advanced technology and equipment - all of which he could now utilize.

With assistance from his older sister, Kira - an accomplished engineer and inventor; Aiden soon began development of the vehicles, tools and general equipment that he would need in order to realize his plan. Soon afterwards, he became the vigilante Gradient - before later changing his name to Mosaic; once his powers fully manifested.

Crucial Events

A year after becoming Mosaic, Aiden would eventually encounter a young man attempting to fight crime, in a manner inspired by him. The boy, seemingly demonstrating Meta-Human powers similar to his own, introduced himself as Arachnid. Aiden, already knowing the man's true identity, and willing to build trust with him, revealed his own identity - before revealing Arachnid's. After proving his identity as Damian Desmond, the young man agreed to shadow under Mosaic's tutelage, for his own safety and security.

Aiden would later encounter Orion Thompson soon after the man's relocation to Sanctuary City.[1] Interested in his skills and mindset, Aiden decided to observe the man for nearly a year before finally deciding to act. Aiden then revealed his identity to him, and eventually decided to offer him a job at Archeon Incorporated - while also helping him fight crime more effectively as Omnius.

He would then encounter Ryozo Hoyokazi, a member of the Hoyokazi Zaibatsu - a famous and powerful clan, situated in Japan. After a brief skirmish wherein Ryozo attempted to kill Aiden in public, he later fought the trained ninja as Mosaic - defeating him with relative ease. Later on, the leader of the Hoyokazi clan - Hiyuki Hoyokazi, offered her apologies on behalf of her clan for Ryozo's attempts on his life.[2]

Eventually, Aiden would learn the identity of the man causing the constant kidnappings within Sanctuary City - a man named Chiral. Eventually however, Aiden learned that the man was in fact the resurrected persona of Dr. Elias Nathaniel Grayson - his late uncle. After defeating him, Elias was later sent to The Wedge.[3] However, Elias would later break out of containment.[4]

During this time, a Meta-Human named Capgras had impersonated Mayor Jackson - who had herself been captured by Chiral. Mosaic, with the aid of information provided by the MRD Director, would later find the mayor and rescue her; helping to detain Capgras all the while.[3]

Chiral would then re-emerge in Sanctuary City, in a final bid to destroy the city. However, it was in the Sanctuary City Museum during his confrontation with Mosaic and Chimera - that Chiral was finally killed.[5]

Aiden would then find himself in a circumstance where his old schoolmate, Jack Blackburn, would be revived as Faust - a supernatural being hell-bent on getting revenge against him. Faust wanted revenge against Aiden due to the latter's history of revealing and implicating Faust in criminal activities.

The work that Aiden did to expose his and his family's criminal enterprise ultimately led to his incarceration and later experimentation by Eukaryon. After a series of coordinated attacks on Archeon facilities were detected - Aiden later gained information which revealed Faust to be the instigator.[6] After interrogating the MRD Director, upon learning that the MRD were in part responsible for containing the mercenaries used in the Archeon headquarters attacks - Aiden learned that the true identity of Faust was his old enemy Jack, back for revenge.[6]

Aiden would later travel to the Archeon Incorporated Manufacturing Facility in the Midwest United States to confront Faust - only to inadvertently kill him during their altercation.[7] After Faust was revived by the machinations of an Eldritch Abombination serving to use his powerful body as a vessel to finally invade the universe - Faust was temporarily destroyed by the timely intervention of Magister.[7] The Sorcerer Supreme then proceeded to destroy Faust on a physical, spiritual, mental and even conceptual level - for that time at least.[7]

Afterwards, Aiden was given the 10 Specter Rings previously belonging to Iblis - now merged into a single powerful magic ring, known as the Thaumaturgy Ring.[7]

Now at an inner peace, Aiden traveled to the Swiss Alps to finally reconnect with his father, Silas, after 3 years of sparse contact and interaction.[7]

Visiting the MRD, Aiden would later make a deal with the MRD in order to feed them information about potential crimes - in exchange for protection priority to him and the other heroic vigilantes in the city.[8]

Aiden would then be involved in the "Turf Wars" - a city-wide altercation between the MRD and their various enemies, including the Outsiders and the Harbingers.[9] He would also save Mayor Jackson once more, as she was being held hostage by Aisha - the leader of the Outsiders.[9]

Aiden would then assist Valkyrie in her protection of the MRD Spire from attack by Thrasher.[9] Aiden would then assist in the containment of both Aisha and Derelict - the latter being the leader of the Harbingers.[9]

Then, Aiden would neutralize "Ultimata" - the final Meta-Human creation of Chiral.[9]

After dealing with the situation involving the "Turf Wars" - Aiden would then meet both Director McIntyre and Dynamo, to discuss a potential investigation into a criminal killer in the city.[10] He would then meet with Arachnid in order to discuss further training for him for the future.[10]

Transporting to the Axiom, Mosaic would then present "Ultimata" and the means of her capture - revealing that he placed her in a pocket dimension.[10] After discussing the matter with Doctor and Magister, Mosaic agreed to leave her in their care for rehabilitation.[10]

As Mosaic, Aiden would later meet with Hyperia and Arcadia at the Prism.[11] There he would learn about the Watcher robots - prototype Anti Meta-Human machines designed to hunt and capture them - or potentially kill them as well.[11]

He would then contact Magister once more - asking him about a situation involving a crystal monster that Hyperia had encountered in Paradise City.[11] Magister would then reveal the nature of Shatter Points to Mosaic - dimensional nexuses of energy that allowed for the appearance of supernatural creatures.[11] In addition, Magister would inform Mosaic on the nature of the Sovereign of Parsinion - and his plan to absorb the Shatter Point in the Seychelles Islands.[11]

After enlisting Omnius's help, Mosaic would then confront Julian Gray at the Seychelles Islands - moving to fight him and his supernatural backer in the form of The Monad.[11]

Once he defeated Julian, Mosaic suggested a potential solution to his issues - specifically, finding a Queen for him to marry.[11] Julian then thanked Mosaic for his advice before leaving - after the Shatter Point had been severed and Julian had gained his portion of the power as well.[11]

Mosaic would later appear in Sanctuary City to help Sun Wukong II - helping him to combat the return of Faust.[12] As his soul survived Magister's initial attacks - he would then return as part of his bid to gain his revenge on Mosaic once and for all.[12]

However, Faust did not account for the arrival of Doctor and Crepido - the Sorcerers Supreme of that universe.[12] After provoking the Sorceress Supreme with an unsavory comment, Crepido then cast Invertere on Faust - blasting him with a powerful inversion spell; a demonstration of high order magical force.[12]

The effect of the spell inverted Faust's moral, spiritual and energy alignments - turning him to the side of good.[12] This spell also involved the severing of his connection to the Dark God Nyrian - and the substitution of that connection it with a stronger connection to 10 of the Roman Gods.[12]

Now calling himself Paladin, Jack expressed regret at his actions to Mosaic, before being imbued with a magical protection spell from the Sorcerer Supreme to protect his new moral alignment.[12] After getting counsel and guidance from Crepido - the new hero, Paladin would then decide to become the protector of another universe.[12]

Using his new powers granted from him by Mercury - Paladin would then fly away into the sky, and through universal barriers to a new universe to protect; with Mosaic watching his now former arch-enemy leave, and make a new identity for himself as a potential hero.[12]

Mosaic would then accompany Doctor and Crepido to Thaumia - the lost dimension of the Thaumians, as they confronted both Nyrian and Azazel - an amalgamation of tormented souls that comprised the Thaumian sorcerer class.[12]

Utilizing his new powers and abilities, Mosaic was able to single-handedly defeat the Thaumian soul amalgamation - a tremendous feat by Crepido's own admission.[12] Watching as Doctor and Crepido later disabled and disarmed Nyrian, Mosaic then saw the Dark God flee Thaumia and return to his native dimension in haste.[12]

After returning to the Axiom - Mosaic would then discuss the nature of his new abilities with the Sorcerers Supreme, learning to suppress his magical energy output and his mana output.[12]

Now aware of his full nature as a Meta-Human | Para-Human hybrid, Mosaic vowed to protect the Earth at all costs - before returning back home to Sanctuary City.[12]

Current Activity

Aiden continues to run Archeon Incorporated within Sanctuary City. He also still patrols the city as Mosaic, attempting to stop Meta-Human and Human crimes as effectively as he can.

Powers & Equipment

Power Matrix

As the Incarnation of the Power IsoMatrix - Aiden has the ability to absorb and replicate whatever energies, powers or effects are found in those around him. These energies and powers extend far beyond the limits of the Meta-Gene, allowing him to reach new heights of power much quicker than his siblings generally can.

Aiden can also use his inherent Dynamic Power in order to greatly amplify the effectiveness of any offensive, defensive or auxiliary powers that he demonstrates in most situations.

Mosaic DNA

Aiden, similar to the rest of his family, has a unique blend of DNA known as Mosaic DNA. This DNA is different from the genomic sequence found in all Meta-Humans, in that carries no traces of a MH-001 Meta-Gene. Instead, the entirety of Mosaic DNA is a superstructural matrix, capable of automatically re-sequencing itself in an instant, to perfectly mimic any genetic expression. This DNA sequencing technique is autonomic in nature, and is also partially psionic - relying on conscious thought to properly manage and control.

When Aiden gets within range of any Meta-Human, his DNA automatically sequences their specific Meta-Gene structure, integrating that "shape" into itself, as a phantom signature. As his DNA "remembers" the essence of all Meta-Gene sequences it encounters, it allows Aiden to automatically and permanently mimic the abilities of all Meta-Humans he has ever encountered.

Due to the psionic aspect of his DNA, Aiden also mimics the motor skills, memories and informational pathways of those around him, Meta-Human or Human. This has allowed for an exponential increase in Aiden's capacity to know and process information, giving him a form of hyper-intelligence.

Aiden has mimicked countless abilities in his life; abilities that he uses in both his civilian life and vigilante work, such as:

  • Superhuman Physical Characteristics
  • Extra-Sensory Perception
  • Superhuman Reflexes
  • Telekinesis
  • Telepathy
  • Energy Manipulation
  • Matter Manipulation
  • Space-Time Manipulation
    • Spatial Cloning
    • Time Stopping

Dynamic Mimicry

The combination of the Power Matrix and Mosaic DNA allows Aiden to effectively reproduce the characteristics and traits of any supernatural being - moving beyond the Meta-Gene. This allows Aiden complete mimicry of Para-Humans and other supernatural creatures - as long as they are not anchored to an IsoMatrix in any way.

An example of Dynamic Mimicry by Aiden includes:

  • Demi-Being Physiology
  • Dimensional Conduit
    • Mimicked from Julian Gray - after fighting him at the Seychelles Islands.[11]
  • Divine Conduit
    • Mimicked from Jack Blackburn - after encountering his reformed and inverted self in Sanctuary City.[12]

Nanite Suit [Formerly]

A suit derived from the meteorite pod that crash landed on Earth years prior to Mosaic's debut. The suit is reverse-engineered from one of the three pieces of "gear" recovered from the pod. As a highly advanced nanotechnological structure, it's capable of various functions needed to help Mosaic in his vigilante work.

While it has various functions, its main purpose is to aid Mosaic in his movement and combat, augmented his already heightened strength and speed to greater levels.

This suit was destroyed in his fight with Faust - leading to Magister giving him a replacement.[7]

Thaumaturgy Ring

After having his original suit destroyed in his battle with Faust - Magister provided Aiden with a replacement in the form of the Thaumaturgy Ring.[7] This ring is a fusion of the 10 Specter Rings initially created by the Thaumians and weaponized by Iblis.

The ring has been enchanted by Magister to only function with Mosaic's essence. As such, the ring is physically bound to Mosaic, virtually impossible to remove with a high order enchantment. If the ring is ever removed from Mosaic's presence, it will instantly return to him as part of the enchantment.

As the integrated reconstruction of the original 10 Specter Rings - the Thaumaturgy Ring contains 10 core functions, including:

  • Morphus [Blue Ring] - Matter Manipulation with Structured Pattern Memory
  • Pyronis [Orange Ring] - Fire and Flame Manipulation
  • Stasis [Silver Ring] - Time Manipulation
  • Psionis [Purple Ring] - Psionics
  • Fractal [Gold Ring] - Space Manipulation
  • Cryonis [Cyan Ring] - Ice Manipulation
  • Magna [Red Ring] - Energy Manipulation
  • Aether [Pink Ring] - Soul Manipulation
  • Machina [Black Ring] - Magitek Creation and Control
  • Arcana [White Ring] - Magic Energy Generation and Spell Casting

Thaumaturgy Armor

Mosaic's current armor - created as a mixture of the Thaumaturgy Ring's armor and his original Nanite Suit. The armor has the original functions of the Nanite Suit integrated into its design, allowing for compatibility with Mosaic's vehicles - The Aurora and The Manifold.

The Thaumaturgy Armor has resistance to both energy and magic attacks, due to its origin as a Thaumaturgic artifact. In addition to this, the Thaumaturgy Armor provides increased resistance to physical attacks compared to the Nanite Suit as well.

Magic

Due to the Thaumaturgy Ring's Arcana and Psionis functions, Mosaic has the Magical Energy and the Magical Knowledge of the Thaumians - enough to become a Magician. While nowhere near as proficient as a Sorcerer Supreme, Mosaic is still capable of various magical feats through spell casting.

Magical spells and effects include:

  • Illusions
  • Conjuration
  • Transmutation
  • Astral Projection
  • Elemental Manipulation
  • Dimensional Manipulation
  • Replication
  • Reality Warping

Notes

  • Aiden's favorite genre of music is Industrial Rock, much like his Sorcerer Supreme Counterpart.
  • Aiden's favorite food is pizza, though generally without many toppings.
  • He once found himself locked inside of a broom closet as a child, thanks to his sister Phoebe.
    • Using a coat hanger, Aiden finessed an impromptu lockpick to escape - becoming the first instance of him learning to think outside of the box.
  • Aiden has experience with multiple forms of martial arts combat.
    • This is how Aiden overpowered Ryozo during their first encounter, before Ryozo's cousin ultimately stopped the Hoyokazi.
  • Aiden has an interest in Hiyuki Hoyokazi, despite the history between her mother and his father.
